How to Choose Infill Percentage for 3D Printed Parts

3D Printing

When doing 3D printing, we usually don't choose solid infill, so the density of the infill has a big impact on the printed part. When less infill material is used, so does the time and cost of printing and the overall strength of the part. The density of the infill is called the infill percentage.

Therefore, when printing, the appropriate infill percentage should be selected according to the needs of the project:

0%-20% applies to parts that are only for display and do not require load-bearing functions. But if the print has a larger flat on top, then it is better to increase the infill density inside to support it.

20%-40% is suitable for parts that require some load-bearing capability, and this range of infill density can provide almost the same strength as solid parts at a reduced cost.

40%-100% is suitable for parts that require extreme load-bearing capabilities, but the return on strength diminish when the infill percentages greater than 60%.

The strength of a part is directly related to the infill percentage, taking 25% as an example, when the infill percentage increases to 50%, the strength of the part is usually increased by 25%. And when the percentage goes from 50% to 75%, the part strength increases by only 10%.

In addition to infill density, the thickness of the shell and the orientation of the part when printed are also important factors in the strength of the part. Tell PCBWay your needs, we will try our best to provide you with satisfactory service.
